AB Commander LITE 6.1 File manager - Many aren't fans of Microsoft's built-in File Explorer, and they seek another solution. AB Commander LITE is a dual-panel file manager that allows you to work simultaneously with two different folders side-by-side, using drag and drop and right-click. The usual file management commands of Copy, Move, Rename, and Browse are included. There is a command line bar at the bottom of the window for running programs that require command line arguments. You can drag the file using the mouse to drop it into the command bar and not have to type anything. If you need to edit a text file, press Ctrl + Q and the file will automatically open with Notepad or your text editor of choice. To ensure you're getting the full functionality of AB Commander LITE, ensure that you download the LITE version and not the ME or XP editions. AIDA32 3.2 System report/benchmark - First, I want to start out by saying that I can't believe the product is free. I have never seen a system-reporting tool that is so well put together. If there was anything you wanted to know about your computer, this is the application that will find and tell you about what you are looking for. Want to know the motherboard CPU Package Type? Done! Want to know the BIOS type? Done! There are so many areas of reporting that this application covers that I couldn't possibly name them all. Heck, I haven't even found them all! Don't worry. The application is easy to use, and you don't have to be "super tech" to understand it all. AIDA32 will also let you export your summary results in TXT, HTML, MHTML, XML, CSV, MIF, and INI file formats. AIDA32 comes in three flavors: Enterprise, Personal, and Network. The last two versions fit on a floppy, making it the perfect tool for desktop technicians. Basically, all that I can say is that you would have to be CRAZY not to download this product. AnalogX FastCache 1.0 Speed up your Internet connection by caching DNS requests. AnalogX FastCache is a caching DNS server that runs on your local machine and handles any DNS request that your computer makes. Every time you launch a Web site, send an e-mail or perform any other Internet activity, your computer needs to look up the domain name from your ISP's DNS server. It only takes a couple hundred milliseconds per request, but these seconds can add up over time or slow you down if DNS response is slow. FastCache caches the results for a configurable number of days, so you don't have to waste time on repetitive DNS lookups. Angry IP Scanner 2.13 Angry IP Scanner is a piece of software that will let you scan any range of IP addresses looking for a live connection, or you can search a specific hostname on your network to find the IP address. Once you have scanned your desired set of IP addresses, you are left with a listing that has the information on whether an IP address is dead or active. You can export this list to an HTML, XML, TXT, or CSV file. (The CSV file is great for importing information into Excel.) You can right-click an active IP address and get the NetBIOS information, or perform tasks such as opening the IP address in a Web browser, opening the IP address in an explorer window, open an FTP connection (if possible), telnet to the IP address, or start a traceroute command. Angry IP Scanner is small enough to fit on a floppy, so you can take it with you anywhere. I use Angry IP Scanner to keep track of my internal network and as an easy way to get a range of IPs into Excel for network documentation. BoxMaker 1.2 BoxMaker is a simple little application that can generate the outlines for a box to be out of some material with a cutting device (ideally using wood/acrylic on a lasercutter!). You tell it the dimensions of the box (width, height, depth, material width), and it generates a PostScript file with the outlines for the 6 sides of the box. The dimensions are pretty close to the outside lengths, but not precise.

The edges are notched, so it snaps together well. You can import the postscript file it creates in it's directory into CorelDraw (or any other standard drawing program) and manipulate it further there (probably rearrange the pieces to fit on the shape of the material you have at hand). ContextEdit 1.1 ContextEdit lets you control which items appear on your context menu--the menu that appears when you right-click on an item in Windows Explorer. The context menu often contains numerous rarely used commands. These commands come from one of two places: shell commands stored within the System Registry, and context menu handlers. The source of the menu item is transparent to the end user, but still has an impact. Windows Explorer lets you add or remove simple shell commands, but gives you no control over context menu handlers. ContextEdit lets you control both types of context menu items. It also allows you to disable context menu items without removing them entirely. DeskMarker 1.7.3 As a computer technician, I am always drawing up instructions and taking screenshots to help explain how to fix a problem or configure a new system. Word has a neat ability to allow you to highlight text, but what if I need to highlight something on the screenshot or on the screen during a video conference? Well, here is where DeskMarker comes in handy. Think of DeskMarker as a virtual pen or highlighter that is activated by pressing down a set of hotkeys (that you can configure). You can change the color, size, and transparency of the pen tool. This allows you to write comments one second and highlight information the next second. DeskMarker was made for trainers and presenters to be able to emphasis information on the screen. This program is free for commercial use, and will allow you to switch the language of the program between English and German, depending on your speaking preference. For the English speakers out there, when DeskMarker says "strg" what it means in the Ctrl key. The only bad thing about this program is that you have to clear the screen if you make a mistake - you can't just hold down an erase key and undo a small portion. W9x/2k/XP. Exe file 719kb.

DNoter 2.5 {Sticky notes} I work on computers all day long and I have yet to run into a person that didn't have at least one sticky note on their monitor. DNoter essentially lets you do the exact same thing, except instead of sticking the paper note on the monitor, you place the note wherever you want on the screen. I know that sounds cool, but what if I told you that you can set the transparency of the note so you can see items in the background? Even cooler! Another nice feature of this application is that it will save the location and contents of your notes so that if you close and re-open DNoter, your notes will be in the same spot. DNoter also includes a couple other features like the ability to hide/unhide a note and to lock/unlock the note's location. I won't say this is my favorite application of this type, but I WILL say that it is the best one I have seen for free. Stick 'em up! NOTE: THIS IS FOR WINDOWS XP & 2000 ONLY!!

Double Page 2.06 DoublePage is a Microsoft Word for Windows macro that prints a document in a 2-column landscape format on the default printer. (In some printer drivers that capability is built-in but for most of them it is not.) It will typically print about one page per column; hence it is a great way to cut down on paper costs and waste.

Now it can even optionally print on both sides of the sheet for even greater paper savings!

On every page of the printout, it will also optionally add its own special footer giving the name of the document, the date and time it was printed, and the page number.

DoublePage will not modify the actual document. Rather, it will create a temporary document in memory which will be deleted after printing. However, as with any such utility, you should always make regular backups of your files just to be sure. Zip file 64kb.

ESB Unit Conversion 2.0.1 Convert data quickly. This is a unit conversion utility, if you didn't already come to that conclusion by looking at the name of the program. But it's not just your average run of the mill "miles to kilometers" kind of converter. This powerful program converts all kinds of things: time, angles, temperature, torque, and that's just naming a few. Oh, and the tab-based interface? It's real easy to use. My only problem is that it doesn't tell me how many licks it takes to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop - or how many chomps would be required. Wait, I'm receiving confirmation now. Mmm 2.02 Every program these days seem to put an extra item or 2 in your context-menu. It is all under the guise of being helpful, but often it is to get the company name (or product name) in the menu. They see it as a place to advertise. And of course it is difficult or impossible to remove these items in an easy way.

SpywareBlaster 1.1 SpywareBlaster doesn't scan and clean for so-called spyware - it prevents it from being installed in the first place. It achieves this by disabling the CLSIDs of popular spyware ActiveX controls, and also prevents the installation of any of them via a Web page. This allows you to run Internet Explorer with ActiveX enabled, but it will never download or even prompt you for any of the known ActiveX controls. All other Active-X controls or plug-ins will work fine. The SpywareBlaster database contains information on these known spyware ActiveX controls, and can be updated with the click of a button. The application window displays a list of all controls that it is able to detect (this is NOT a list of what was found on your computer). The program cannot detect if you have any of the known objects already installed, but if you do, they will be disabled.
